What is the difference between a PHEV and a mild hybrid van?
A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) van has a battery large enough to drive significant distances on electric power alone and can be recharged from a mains socket. A mild hybrid uses a smaller 48V battery and electric motor to assist the combustion engine, reducing fuel consumption without providing full electric-only driving. Both are ULEZ compliant; PHEVs offer greater emissions and cost benefits for urban operations.
Are hybrid vans ULEZ compliant?
Yes. All current hybrid commercial vehicles meet Euro 6 emissions standards and are compliant with the London ULEZ and all UK Clean Air Zones. Vanadam verifies compliance for every vehicle we source.
Do I need charging infrastructure for a PHEV van?
Not to operate the vehicle. A PHEV van can run entirely on its conventional engine if charging is unavailable, though you will achieve maximum benefit from regular charging at a 3-pin or 7kW wallbox. Vanadam can advise on charge point procurement as part of the vehicle package.

Can hybrid vans be converted or upfitted?
Yes. PHEV and mild hybrid vans can be racked, shelved, liveried and fitted with most standard commercial vehicle equipment. Vanadam manages any required upfitting through our approved conversion partner network alongside vehicle supply.
Is hybrid the right choice or should I go full electric?
It depends on your routes, depot charging capability and operational flexibility. Vanadam provides impartial advice across hybrid and full electric options. If your routes suit full electric, we will tell you. If hybrid is the better operational fit right now, we will tell you that too.
